The building blocks for the systems that you need are all around you. You have desktops, servers, a data network, and wireless devices. You have relational databases, maybe a PI system with ProcessBook and DataLink, Microsoft Office, MES, work management systems, and project planning tools. The problem is that you don't have it all working together.

Another common problem is that you have all of this data but you can't correlate it and present the results in a unified manner. Again, you have all of the right components you just don't have the code to bring it all together and present it.

 

 

 

Many times these projects are much easier to pull together than you might think.

You probably have a pretty good idea of how you would like things to be but you can't find anyone to help you get there. You can find people who are experts in a particular application but nobody who will step back and look at the full picture and help you integrate several of those systems together.

Putting Together the Pieces

Many times you have the separate pieces that you need but you spend many hours manually transferring data between these pieces. You might have Primavera for project management, Oracle for your financial records and HR database, and Maximo for your work management system. You have a project manager updating Primavera, your supervisors entering the Oracle data, your supervisors and technicians updating Maximo. Many times they are all entering the same thing.

transferring data between systems or entering the same data in two places. I can help to unify your user interface and place the data into separate applications on the back end. It is often much easier than you think it will be.

 

The right tools to succeed

I have joined the Microsoft Empower for ISV's (Independent Software Vendors) program. The program gives me a Microsoft Developer Network subscription which means that I have access to all Microsoft software for development and testing purposes. It also means that I can obtain demonstration licenses to help to field test solutions without the need to purchase the Microsoft licenses up front. I have access to all of the latest tutorials and news to keep up with the latest developments and trends in Microsoft software.

I am a member of the VMWare Technology Network (VMTN) which gives me access to VMWare virtualization technology to test solutions on different platforms and validate deployment scenarios. I often use Norton Ghost to save an image of a production system and pull it into a virtual machine. I can then test and plan on that virtual machine to be sure that deployment to your production environment goes smoothly and without any unexpected problems.
